Gas Fireplace Maintenance & Repair, Gatineau to Québec City
A pilot that won't stay lit, a fireplace that clicks but never lights, glass clouded with white film or flames that burn yellow and lazy: our RBQ-licensed technicians service Napoleon, Valor, Heat & Glo, Regency, Jøtul, Majestic and every other brand of gas fireplace.
Inserts, built-in fireplaces and freestanding stoves share the same essentials: a burner, a pilot or electronic ignition, a gas valve, glass and a sealed vent. We know the controls and parts of the major brands sold in Quebec.
Gas fireplaces
Gas fireplace inserts
Inserts installed in an existing masonry or wood-burning fireplace, with a liner up the chimney: burner and pilot service, glass, gaskets, liner connections and blowers.
Wall switches, millivolt thermostats and remote controls: receivers, wiring and programming, plus the batteries and backups electronic ignitions depend on.
Gas fireplace maintenance and repair, for every brand
A gas fireplace is a sealed combustion appliance. Dust, spider webs in the pilot, worn gaskets and a soiled vent slowly make it start harder, burn dirtier and heat less. An annual visit keeps it safe and reliable, and most repairs come down to a handful of parts that we carry for the common brands.
Annual gas fireplace maintenance
Each maintenance visit follows a full checklist: we shut off the gas, remove the glass, clean the burner, pilot assembly, logs or media and the firebox, vacuum the control compartment and blower, and check the thermocouple or thermopile output. We inspect the gaskets and the vent termination outside, test for gas leaks, check the inlet and manifold pressure, then relight and adjust the flame. You get a short report with anything that needs attention. The best time is late summer or early fall, before the first cold nights.
Pilot, thermocouple and thermopile repair
A pilot that goes out, will not stay lit when you release the knob, or burns weak and yellow is the most common fireplace call. The cause is usually a dirty pilot orifice, a thermocouple or thermopile that no longer produces enough voltage, a misaligned pilot hood or a faulty valve. We clean the pilot assembly, measure the millivolt output, and replace the parts that are worn, so the fireplace lights on the first try again.
Electronic ignition and gas valve repair
Newer fireplaces use intermittent pilot or electronic ignition with a control module. When the fireplace clicks without lighting, lights and shuts off, or ignores the remote, we test the igniter, flame sensor, module, receiver and batteries or power adapter, then the gas valve and its pressure. We replace only the part that is at fault, with the manufacturer's part whenever it is available.
Glass, gaskets and flame appearance
White film on the glass, soot, or flames that are too tall, too blue or too yellow all tell us something about the combustion. We clean the glass with the right product, replace worn gaskets so the firebox stays sealed, reposition logs and media to the manufacturer's layout, and adjust the air shutter. Cracked glass is replaced with the manufacturer's tempered or ceramic glass only, never cut to fit.
Venting and safety checks
A direct-vent fireplace draws its air from outside and sends its combustion gases back out through a sealed vent. We inspect the termination for blockages, nests and ice, check the vent connections and clearances, and confirm the fireplace is drafting correctly. Every visit ends with a gas leak test. We also remind you to keep a working carbon monoxide detector near the fireplace.
Gas fireplace installation and replacement
Our RBQ-licensed team (8259-8822-21) installs gas fireplaces, inserts and stoves, runs the gas line, installs the venting and starts up the appliance to the manufacturer's specifications. When an older fireplace is no longer worth repairing, we explain the options and replace it with a model that fits your room and your existing vent where possible.
Genuine replacement parts
We use the manufacturer's parts for valves, pilots, thermocouples, thermopiles, igniters, modules, glass and gaskets. When a part has been discontinued, we tell you before the repair and propose an approved replacement or a new appliance. Parts and labour are explained before any work is done.

Frequently asked questions
Gas fireplaces: 10 questions, 10 answers
1
How often should a gas fireplace be serviced?
Once a year. Manufacturers recommend an annual inspection and cleaning by a qualified technician, ideally before the heating season. A fireplace you use every day in winter benefits the most.
2
Which brands of gas fireplaces do you service?
All of them, including Napoleon, Valor, Heat & Glo, Regency, Jøtul, Majestic, Heatilator, Quadra-Fire, Vermont Castings, Mendota, Montigo, Kingsman, Enviro and Continental. Give us the brand and model when you book and we will bring the likely parts.
Most often, the thermocouple or thermopile no longer produces enough voltage, or the pilot flame is too weak to heat it because the orifice is dirty. A draft at the vent or a faulty valve can also be the cause. A technician can measure it and replace the right part.
4
My fireplace clicks but won't light. What should I check?
Replace the batteries in the remote, the receiver and the ignition module backup, and check that the gas valve is open. If it still clicks without lighting, the igniter, flame sensor or module needs to be tested. Do not keep trying for long periods: book a visit.
5
What is the white film on my fireplace glass?
It is a normal combustion deposit, heavier on a new fireplace or after a lot of use. Clean it with a fireplace glass cleaner when the glass is cold. If it comes back quickly or turns black, the flame needs adjusting.
6
I smell gas near my fireplace. What should I do?
Do not touch any switch or the fireplace controls. Leave the home, then call your gas supplier's emergency line or 911 from outside. Once the supplier has made the area safe, call us to find and repair the cause.
7
Can my fireplace be converted to propane?
Many gas fireplaces can be converted between natural gas and propane with the manufacturer's conversion kit. We confirm the model allows it, install the kit, adjust the pressure and update the label.
8
Which regions do you serve?
We serve the corridor from Gatineau to Québec City, including Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, Trois-Rivières, Drummondville and Lévis. Send us your city and we will confirm availability.
9
How much does gas fireplace maintenance cost?
Our rates start at $260 and vary by region. The rate for your area is confirmed when you book. If parts are needed, we explain them and their cost before doing the repair.
10
Can you install a gas insert in my wood-burning fireplace?
Often, yes. A gas insert fits inside an existing masonry or factory-built wood fireplace and vents through a liner in the chimney. We check the opening, the chimney and the gas supply, then propose a model that fits.
