Laars & Jandy · Hayward · Pentair Sta-Rite authorized service
Gas Pool Heater Repair & Installation, Gatineau to Québec City
A heater that clicks but won't fire, a pressure switch error the minute the pump starts, sooty flames or a heat exchanger scaled by hard water: our authorized technicians repair Laars & Jandy, Hayward and Pentair Sta-Rite gas pool heaters and get them ready for the season.
Three manufacturers equip most heated pools in Quebec. Their gas heaters share a principle, a burner tray under a heat exchanger, but not their controls, igniters or parts. We are authorized for all three.
Authorized pool heater brands
Laars & Jandy gas pool heaters
Jandy JXi and Legacy LRZ heaters and the Laars models still running on many Quebec pools: igniters, flame sensors, control boards and heat exchangers.
Gas pool heater repair, maintenance and installation by authorized technicians
A gas pool heater lives outdoors, runs a few months a year and sits idle through a Quebec winter, which is hard on igniters, gaskets and heat exchangers. Entretien Universel has serviced gas appliances since 1995. As an authorized service provider for Laars & Jandy, Hayward and Pentair Sta-Rite, we repair, start up, winterize and install gas pool heaters from Gatineau to Québec City, with the same team that holds our RBQ gas licence.
Pool heater diagnostics, error code by error code
Every visit starts with a complete diagnostic. We read the heater's error codes, then check gas pressure at the valve, the igniter and flame sensor, the pressure and temperature switches, water flow through the filter and pump, the venting and the condition of the heat exchanger. You get a clear explanation of what failed and why, with a firm quote, before any part is ordered. Have the model and serial numbers from the heater's rating plate ready: parts differ from one generation to the next.
Ignition, flame sensor and gas valve repair
A heater that clicks or glows but never lights, or lights and shuts down after a few seconds, usually points to a weak igniter, a dirty or cracked flame sensor, a failing gas valve or low gas pressure. Spiders and insects also love the burner tray of a heater that sat all winter. We clean the burners and orifices, test each step of the ignition sequence and replace only what has failed.
Water flow and pressure switch faults
Many heater problems start with the water. A dirty filter, a full skimmer basket, a closed valve or an undersized pump keeps the pressure switch open, and the heater refuses to fire, often with a pressure switch or low-flow code. We check flow and pressure, adjust or replace the pressure switch, inspect the internal bypass and confirm the heater sees enough water to run safely.
Heat exchanger care and water chemistry
Unbalanced water is the main enemy of a pool heater. Low pH and high chlorine eat copper heat exchangers from the inside, while hard water leaves scale that chokes the flow and makes the heater rumble. We inspect the exchanger and headers, descale or replace them when needed, check the temperature sensors and high-limit switches, and give you the water chemistry targets that protect your heater.
Spring start-up and fall winterizing
In Quebec, a gas pool heater needs a proper start-up in spring and a proper shutdown in fall. At start-up, we clean the burner tray, clear nests and debris, check gas connections for leaks, test ignition and the safety switches and confirm the heater reaches temperature. In fall, we shut off the gas, drain the heat exchanger completely and protect the unit so frost cannot crack it over the winter.
Gas pool heater installation and replacement
Our RBQ-licensed team (8259-8822-21) installs new Laars & Jandy, Hayward and Pentair Sta-Rite heaters and replaces old ones: a gas line sized for the heater's BTU rating, shutoff valve, natural gas or propane setup, clearances to the house, windows and property line, plumbing with the right bypass, and the electrical connection to the pump and automation. We fire the heater and test every safety device before we leave.
Warranty service and genuine parts
As an authorized service provider for Laars & Jandy, Hayward and Pentair Sta-Rite, we perform repairs covered by each manufacturer's warranty according to its terms. Have your model number, serial number and proof of purchase ready and we will confirm coverage with you. Outside the warranty, we install genuine manufacturer parts so your heater stays efficient and safe.

Frequently asked questions
Pool heater repair: 10 questions, 10 answers
1
Which pool heater brands are you authorized for?
Entretien Universel is an authorized service provider for Laars & Jandy, Hayward and Pentair Sta-Rite. We also service other brands of gas pool heaters and pool heat pumps.
2
My pool heater clicks but won't light. Why?
The most common causes are a weak igniter, a dirty flame sensor, low gas pressure or debris in the burner tray after the winter. If the heater shows an error code, note it before you call: it helps us bring the right part.
Why does my heater show a pressure switch or flow error?
The heater is not getting enough water. Clean the filter and skimmer baskets and check that the valves are open. If the error persists, the pressure switch or the bypass needs testing.
4
When should I book a spring start-up?
As early as possible, ideally in April. Start-ups are our busiest pool heater calls in May and June, and booking early means a warm pool for the first hot weekend.
5
Do I really need to winterize my gas pool heater?
Yes. Water left in the heat exchanger freezes and can crack it, which is an expensive repair. We shut off the gas, drain the heater completely and protect it for the winter.
6
Do you handle warranty repairs?
Yes. As an authorized provider for Laars & Jandy, Hayward and Pentair Sta-Rite, we perform warranty repairs according to each manufacturer's terms. Give us the model, serial number and purchase date and we will confirm coverage.
7
Can my pool heater run on propane?
Most gas pool heaters are available for natural gas or propane, and many can be converted with the manufacturer's kit. Our RBQ-licensed team performs the conversion and adjusts the heater for the new gas.
8
Which regions do you serve?
We serve the corridor from Gatineau to Québec City, including Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, Trois-Rivières, Drummondville and Lévis. Send us your city and we will confirm availability.
9
How much does a pool heater repair cost?
Our rates start at $260 and vary by region. The rate for your area is confirmed when you book. Parts are quoted separately, and nothing is replaced without your approval.
10
Is it worth repairing an older pool heater?
Often, yes. A new igniter, sensor or pressure switch costs far less than a new heater. If the heat exchanger is badly corroded or the heater is near the end of its life, we tell you honestly and quote a replacement.
